Together, lets rebuild the wall of Eastern Highlands Province

BY BENJAMIN TONNY TABIE

OUR SOCIETY is on the brink of collapse into the hands of an increasing number of drug addicts, alcoholics, rapists, corrupt politicians and thieves - to name a few.

Our mothers and sisters are not feeling safe anymore in their own society. The instances of crime, corruption, deaths and tribal fight are mounting.

There is a question on how we are going to end it and how we going to change our society for today and for the future generation to live a better life free from social issues.

The onus is now on individuals to play their part in changing and shaping society.

The Eastern Highlands Christians Students and Graduates Association (EHCSGA) from various denominations from the four tertiary institutions in the country have taking bold stand to fight against social issues through implanting the importance of the word of God with education into every districts and places in the Eastern Highlands Province to fight against the raising social issues that taking down the society.

The Eastern Highlands Christians Students and Graduates association was established in 2010 at the Divine Word University and spread out to University of Goroka, Madang Teachers College and the Highlands Regional Nursing College.

The National President of the EHCSGA in 2019, Ken Oprah said they still working on to establish the association in all the tertiary institutions and secondary schools in the country.

The Eastern Highlands Christians’ Students association stands on the bible quoted in the Old Testament in the book of Nehemiah chapter 2 verses 17 “Come, let’s rebuild the wall of Jerusalem and we will no longer be in disgrace”’.

The Association is aimed at producing God fearing intellects in the Eastern Highlands province who can be a role model to their future leaders for the betterment of the society with the theme: “let’s rebuild the wall of Eastern Highlands Province”

Since 2010 the association carried out many outreached program in the province which have seen positives feedbacks and impacts on the lives of people.

In 2019, they preached this message of hope at Kuru village in the Henganofi district of Eastern Highlands Province.

The same message is still relevant two years later in 2021.

As we prepare to go into the National General Elections, we need to build and strenghten our walls of safety in Jesus Christ.

The young people back in 2019 carried out awareness program during the day and share gospel with the people in the evenings for the duration of one week.

Their awareness based on how to tackle drug issues, alcohol, healthy lifestyle, managing money and encourages drop outs to ventures into other opportunities.

In health they talk about ways to abstain from STIs, HIV, cancers, Family planning, and teenage pregnancy.

Students successfully covered two health centers, seven primary schools and four market places in the Fiyantina Local Level Government, Henganofi District of EHP.

President of the EHCSGA Iyo Iros said they as the students cannot turn a blind eye on the social issues that weakening their society but must take action to fight against it.

“With man it is impossible but with God everything is possible so we let God be the center of every motive we set to achieve it within our society”.

“If people cannot afraid of law and order, and leaders cannot address the raising issues then it’s time we run to our God to restore everything for us,” Iros said.

He also challenges other students in other provinces to work together in addressing the issues in the societies.

The EHCSGA is funded and supported by the students themselves

The community of Kuru and the Fiyantina area are pleased with the students for taking this initiative to bring to people what they’ve learnt in school and word of God that truly change the life of youths and people of Kuru.
