A  LONG held dream to become a journalist has come to fruition for a male student.

Concy Simon, 23 from Mogl village in Sinasina Yongomugl district in Chimbu Province graduated with a Bachelor in Communication Arts (Journalism) at the 37th    Divine Word University graduation in 2019.

Simon was lost for words when he was called upon to receive his final degree paper in flying colors in front of a packed crowd.

He said his dream of becoming a journalist started back in early stage while in Kindeng Primary School in Jiwaka Province.

“While I was doing my primary level of education, I used to collect old news papers and quickly glance through the names of the reporter who wrote the article,’’ he said.

Concy said he could remember some of the names and  hoped that one fine time his name would appear on the paper and this was his dream.

Simon wish drove him with great determination where he studied at primary school that landed him at the  then  Anglimp  High school (now secondary) in  2011 and 2012  where he did grade 9 and 10 respectively.

From there he passed the national exam with good marks that further placed him at the Togoba Secondary School in Western Highlands Province to pursue his two years secondary study.

In 2013, the hardworking student won a Digicel Essay Competition for the school which encouraged him in his dream.

“My morale was boosted at that time as it really motivated me to study very hard and finally I got an offer from the Divine Word University in 2015  after passing my grade 12 national exam," he said.

“During my first year at the DWU taking up my ambitious course in communication arts, I was over excited because that was the career I have opted for,’’ Simon said.

He said during his second year doing practical with Post-Courier at Mt Hagen office in 2016, he had met with some of the senior reporters that he deemed them as his role model back in the primary schooling days.

Simon has remained loyal with Post-Courier Mt Hagen Office where he has done all his practical training over the three years before graduating as a journalist.
