THE FLY RIVER BEAUTIES

WESTERN BEAUTY ON SHOW

Western Beauty Daisy Dari back in 2019

Western Province is known for its world class gold and copper mine.

But by the banks of the Fly River, a new gold class industry is in its infancy, sprouting the beauty of the Kumul that hides in the forests along the river bank and rearing its colour in a class of its own.

It even went up to the misty mountain township of Tabubil, where a small group of young models will strut their stuff on stage.

And back in the river port town of Kiunga, yet another group sweppt the cement floored catwalk in a fashion show that is taking North Fly District by storm.

Organised by North Fly Fashion Bilas Week - the creation of a smart young man named Jason Nekeneke - the modelling has been on audition stage month now with models as young as 10 looking cute and confident on the catwalk.

The countryside girls and boys are slowly getting the hang of modelling, as they participate in a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Jason, who is part Western and Milne Bay, said: "North Fly Bilas Fashion Week aims to promote not only models from Western Province but most importantly the culture of the people as well."

NFBFW has no sponsors at the moment and Jason is running his show on a shoestring budget supported by kindly friends and family who believe in his ambitions.

Any sponsor who wants to give Jason a hand can contact him via his FB account North Fly Fashion Bilas Week or email tovekysoy@gmail.com or phone Jason on 72292496 or his supportive mum Helen on 73334446.

The plans include an auditioning visit to Middle and South Fly districts if all goes well.

Once the auditioning is complete, North Fly can expect a huge catwalk modelling night when the show hits the river port anytime soon.

This jaywalking happened in 2019 when the night was still young. Up to now, all kinds of weather has unsettled life throughout PNG.

Maybe Covid. Maybe flooding, I don't know but I have not heard from Jason and the boys and girls of Kiunga.

It was a bright idea and a spark of imagination. Maybe Jays needs to pick up the pieces and start all over again.

As these selection of pictures show, beauty is in the eye of the beholder! - with BIG PAT
