THE much beloved 'Missus Kwin' of Papua New Guinea won't be coming to visit us this year - her 70th year on the throne.

Instead, her Majesty Queen Elizabeth is sending her daughter Her Royal Highness Princess Anne to represent her during her Platinum anniversary celebrations this April.

Princess Anne will visit PNG this April to mark Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II’s 70-year reign as monarch.

Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae confirmed yesterday that plans to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations this year would include a visit from HRH Princess Anne, third child and only daughter of Queen Elizabeth.

Famously known throughout PNG as 'Missus Kwin', Queen Elizabeth II ascended the British throne in 1952.

Throughout the country, there are many schools that were opened in her crowning year that now bear the name Coronation Primary or High School.

Sir Bob welcomed the plans for the celebration during a meeting with British High Commissioner to PNG Keith Scott at Government House yesterday.

“We look forward to receiving Her Royal Highness Princess Anne in April this year,” Sir Bob said.

“Obviously this is not her first visit to Papua New Guinea having visited on a number of occasions before.

"This is a special occasion to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.”

The GG as the Queen’s representative in PNG is also expected to attend a meeting for all Heads of States of the Commonwealth, at the invitation of the Queen, sometime this year.

Mr Scott said the UK would host a number of activities to mark the occasion, and one which the Queen was passionate about was the preservation of rainforests.

With PNG possessing one of the largest remaining rainforests in the world, it is being considered to reserve a portion of the rainforest in honor of the Queen.

Mr Scott has expressed the British government’s intention to assist and work alongside the PNG government and in particular, the Governor General’s Office, host activities to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

This will be the first Royal visit to PNG since 2015, when Prince Andrew, the Queen’s second son, visited PNG to open the 2015 Pacific Games.
