BLOODY FRIDAY

TWO bloody crimes rocked Eastern Highlands capital of Goroka last Friday.

In the morning hours, a man from upper Highlands beheaded another man from Chimbu at the Kakaruk Market, which is known as World Trade Centre.

The deceased body was taken straight to the Goroka Provincial Hospital’s morgue. The perpetrator is in hiding, police said.

In an unrelated incident, another murder was attempted around 1:00pm along the airport road in the town’s central business centre.

An alert Arau Security Services guard, who manned the nearby properties, intervened and prevented the perpetrators from finishing off their victim.

The guard observed two men jump out of a 10-seater Land Cruiser armed with a metre long tramontina bush knives and approached a tall man with long dreadlocks walking towards the Goroka NBC Haus.

The tall man ducked just in time to avoid the first man swinging his bush knife.

The second man’s attempt caught the tall man on his shoulder as he regathered his balance and the third attempt cut the tall man on the right side of his head.

The Arau Security Service guards manning the Mendikwae’s properties at the departure lounge intervened to stop further attempts.

The knife men quickly retreated to their standby vehicle to get away.

Just then, the Goroka-based Fox 3 Unit, which happened to drive out of the police station onto the road, instinctively detected the incident and chased the getaway vehicle.

The getaway vehicle sped off despite two warning shots for it to stop and surrender.

No more shots were heard, understandably due to risk to the public in the town and the Fox unit was right at the tail of the getaway vehicle.

Meanwhile, another 10-seater Land Cruiser pulled in to rush the victim to the hospital.

The victim was seen losing heavy blood when he was assisted onto the vehicle.
