PARTY SETS BRANCHES IN EHP AND ORO
The Country Party has moved to increase
its presence in various provinces and through
establishment of Kainantu, Goroka and Daulo Branches in EHP and the Ijivitari
and Sohe Branches in Oro Province. The Country Party is for the small people
and the endorsement of District Branches reflects the party ideology to work at
the rural community level.
A District Branch has been established in Ijivitari Electorate and also the Northern Provincial Branch led by Mr Mackenzie Saofe, Walter Onia, Wadman Jajara, Raygari Sawana and Simon Ija.
Messrs Robert Baraokove, Paul Hiemute, Marcus Tanika have been appointed as Branch Presidents for Daulo, Goroka and Kainantu respectively in the EHP.
Mr Duwabane also announced elevation of Mr Donald Lilo as Vice President – Highlands and said that we will continue to work for the betterment of the rural communities and that is to establish network at the village level.
As a pioneer political party, Country Party finds its strength in its die-hard supporters throughout PNG.
Party President, Nelson Duwabane announced these new formalities after the approval by the Executive Committee that deliberated and accepted members and branches.
Country Party has a strong following in EHP and the neighboring provinces of Chimbu, Madang, Gulf, Jiwaka and Morobe and other parts of PNG.
The Country Party has made its comeback in the Southern region since 2012 with election of late Richard Mendani (Kerema ) and Chris Haiveta (Gulf) following in the footsteps of former statesmen such as late Dobodai Wautea (Kikori Open) and Sir Tore Lokoloko (Kerema) and Mackenzie Daugi (Oro Regional).
The Country Party is a party for the ordinary people who rely on land and agriculture for their sustenance and cash income.
In 2022 National Elections, Country Party, will advocate for land, Agriculture, Rural Business and Rural Development moving thorugh small and medium enterprise development and improvement in lives of our majority of people living in the rural areas and push for farmers and small and medium enterprise including the urban population.
In March 1974 Michael Pondros, Member for Manus formally announced that Country Party to be established in PNG, independently of the Australian Party and announced the Ten (10) Point Policy.
Some interesting Country Party highlights includes the founding of the party by 3 time Member of House of Assembly and coffee stalwart late Sir Sinake Giregire of Goroka.
The election of Mathias Yaliwan for Yangoru seat and the Peli movement, election of party member Sir Tore Lokoloko as GG, and at one time being led by a non Parliamentary member who was a former PNG Kumul prop forward named Dekot Koki.
