A two weeks basic fish farming training was completed last Friday by the Central Provincial Administration under the Fisheries and Marine Resource Division.

It was facilitated by two Provincial Fisheries officers, Kila Kalakau and Jacob Benosi, and Naime Hera from Kupiano Vocational and Community College.

“Central province people dirty your hands by working on the land, we have plenty of land available, let’s make use of the land or land may make use of us in future, move away from subsistence farming and move into commercial farming”, said Mr Gani.

The training involved pond designing, construction and installation, cage design and rigging, feed formulation methods, general fish farm management, site selections and sex identification.

Provincial fisheries advisor Iga Peni said, “Our job is to impart knowledge to you and it is now your job to implement what you have learned,” he added, “This is not the end but the beginning, the division will supply the fingerlings to help assist you start off your fish ponds.”

There will be more similar training held later in other districts of Central Province this year.
