SINGING ALONG WITH CHIEF WARI VELE
IF you
wanna have a good laugh, wonder down to Taikone Beach in Port Moresby’s
southside beaches.
There you
might find a stand-up comic who has a knack for tickling the fancy of his
friends and followers with belly dancing laughter.
And if you
haven’t heard enough of his funny jokes, then take a seat and be entertained by
the sea breeze with some golden oldies from the past.
Welcome to
Taikone, home of Team Wari Vele 2022, where your laughter is assured and your
request for an oldie will be delivered with a flourish.
Like the
joke about Motukea, Iokea, and I don’t care, with an added salt and pepper
shake from the Harahara String Band of the Miaru River with their 1970s hit:
‘Sapos yu laik salens mi, ai don KEA enipoti!’
Which makes Wari Vele something of an enigma. You can’t tell where he is coming from or where he will meet you.

Some people call him the Red Dragon. You just have to be prepared to sing with him with a huff and a puff.
Many
acclimatize with ‘Mi Wari Lo Yu’, the famous catchy jingle that powered Wari to
the top in the 2006 NCD by-election following the death of fellow Papuan and
another singalong fanatic late Bill Skate.
Whichever way he gets a lakatoi heading, you don't worry, be happy!
You will still get to like Wari because he does worry about your next song and dance.
One of his favourite songs is about Big Old Baldy, the
famous Kila Kila Hill, epitomized by the folksy tune of the same beat
‘Kaukana’.
Wari does
have a boom beat vocal on occasions. He once owned a radio station, FM Central,
where golden oldies, country and western love songs were a boom shakalaka hits
and memories rolled off its airwaves.
Maoro.

Mrs Kila Vele nambawan sapota and organizer of Team Wari Vele 2022. |
Last Easter Monday, Wari was crowned as Paramount Chief of Hula, a community down the Papuan Coast known for its sailors and fishermen.
Being
chief is not a problem. His father is descended from the original chief of Hula
going back a century.
But being chief comes with a whole lot of responsibilities, reminisced Chief Wari.
It has
not stopped the jokes and the songs. Infact chiefs were known to keep their
people happy buy telling a joke or two, and usually led the singsing in the
past.
With the
chief’s headdress on, Chief Wari is looking at capturing an old kingdom which
he briefly ruled in 2006.
He is challenging old foe Powes Parkop for the NCD seat in NGE 2022.
Chief Wari Vele will be running under People’s Labour Party ticket.
Mi
Wari Lo Yu is here.
Top story big Pat. You are magic with words.
