SIR MOI BACKS KEITH IDUHU

 

SENIOR statesman Sir Moi Avei has thrown his support behind a lawyer from Gaire village in Central Province’s Hiri-Koiari seat.

Sir Moi was MP for Kairuku-Hiri from 1992-2007 and is now supporting Keith Iduhu, who is contesting as a New Generation Party candidate.

Mr Iduhu, 44, graduated with a law degree from the University of Papua New Guinea in 2002 and has been in private practise under his own law firm, Fairfax Lawyers, until early last year when he merged his firm with Pacific Legal Group.

Speaking at a campaign rally on May 15 at Gaire village, Mr Iduhu spoke to supporters from nearly all Motu-Koita villages along the Hiri Coast.

The event observed an old tradition of lighting-up of the famous Hiri trade fire known as “iritauna Lahina”. This fire since lit up on Sunday will be kept a light for the full duration of the race.

Sir Moi, speaking at Mr Iduhu’s rally, appealed to the people of Hiri-Koiari to support him because he believes Keith has all the attributes and credentials of a parliamentarian to represent the people of Hiri-Koiari in Parliament.

“As a lawyer, Keith is well-suited to using his profession and knowledge to work alongside the colleague parliamentarians to pass suitable legislation to improve the living standards of our people and PNG as a whole,” he said.

“It is not just about delivering goods and services, but the future of Hiri besena into the next 400 years.”

Mr Iduhu said he was adamant the economic liberation of PNG depended on a major reform in the context of customary land formalisation and giving of secure titles to clans all across the country.

Mr Iduhu will be led to the nomination booth by the Botai clan of Porebada village. 

Porebada villages hold over 4,000 eligible voters in the biggest Motu village of more than eight thousand people in its population score. 

Botai clan is paying his nomination fee and pledged to give him support.
