ECONOMIST JOHN NUMA JOINS RIGO RACE
WITH the nominations starting for National
Election 2022, most candidates in the country and in certain regions, meeting
houses or haus man are the norm for campaigning purposes, but not so for a
candidate in Central Province.
John Numa, the Hula-Goulubu man who has
nominated to stand for the Rigo Open seat last Thursday in Kwikila, in Central,
said all his campaigns and meetings with people will be conducted during the
day.
“We have to think about the safety of our
villagers who may travel long distances. We have to conduct campaigns during
the day and give them time to return to their villages before sundown,” Mr Numa
said.
He said there is no real need to keep
villagers or people in a place overnight for a candidate to convince them of
his or her plans for them.
“Your people should know you. Meeting with
them from 8am until midday on any day to promote your vision is sufficient.
That helps in many ways,” Mr Numa said.
The Hula-Goulubu man, who has also told his
people that they should not be carrying bags and cargo from their villages to
the main roads, the MPs should have built linking roads to help lessen the
burden they face daily and for 46 years.
“You are not mules, you are human beings.
Make the right choice and let us end this cargo-carrying exercise,” Mr Numa
said.
The University of PNG economics graduate
and former planner with National Roads Authority said, if he is elected by the
people, his priority in the first few years is open up road links to the inland
Rigo people.
“My coastal Hula people have agreed that
the inland people need the roads and will not ask for too much until the inland
villages are connected to the main highways,” Mr Numa said.
Mr Numa is running under the ticket of People’s Party and will work with party leaders Sir Peter Ipatas and Dr William Tongamp to develop Rigo.
