ANGORAM
district in East Sepik, one of the least developed in the province and the
country, is actually rich in resources, a candidate for the seat in the
national elections, Lazarus Kenni, said.
And
he intends to turn this around to make Angoram realize its full potential in
agriculture, farming and other areas if given the chance in the elections.
“Angoram
is truly blessed; the river banks (of the Sepik River) are underutilized. If we
grow rice, we can feed Asia out of Angoram alone,” Kenni said.
He sees rice farming on the river bank as a potential economic drive for the
district that he would make happen if he wins the seat.
He
said during low tides, the river banks could be utilized in growing rice and
other crops for exports which were not happening.
“During dry season, not flooding, we will discuss sustainable way to grow rice and export,” Kenni said.
He
said sweeping the river banks during low tides or dry season were wild canes
growing on.
He
said the soil is rich in fertility which had cash crops like vanilla, rubber
and coffee grown by people settling in from other parts of the province.
Kenni said coast of Angoram had abundance
to offer in the sea food market.
“There
is so much opportunity for mud crabs, crayfish, lobsters in Murik, they don’t
have market,” he said.
He
described Angoram as least developed in East Sepik but that can all change with
the proper leadership.
