LETS ADDRESS LAW & ORDER IN HAGEN
By KOLOPU WAIMA of Post-Courier, Mount Hagen
A Supermarket Manager in Western
Highlands is calling on all stakeholders to join hands to address illegal
activities in Mt Hagen City.
The manager, who remains anonymous for
security reasons, said last Thursday that political heads and business men and
women including police must work together to bring Mt Hagen to his former glory days back of
1980s and 1990s.
“Who’s going to do if its not being done,
the ownership comes back to the people of WHP to change their mind and
attitudes for a better city to live and work in,” he said.
He said that law and order enforcing
agencies in the province needs to pull up their socks.
“We really need some confidence from law
agencies as we will be heading into the general elections in some four months
away and we believe that if the law-and-order situation doesn’t improves, these
town will become a ghost town.”
He said that the laws are enshrined in the constitution of our country and it is now
up to the law enforcing agencies to use the laws to physically handle all these
vagrants and nomads.
“The law enforcing agencies really need to
be empowered with logistics such as vehicles, fuel and men power which most
of the officers have come off age,” he said.
He urged all political heads in the
province including the governor to contribute some funding from their DSIP and
PSIP in law and order component to empower law and order agencies in the
province so that the investors can see a decline of law and order situations in
the province.
