FOLLOW PROCESS AND WE WILL PUT YOU ON PAYROLL

Teacher who has taught without pay for a number of years in Morobe.

PRIVATE SCHOOLS MUST DO THE RIGHT THING

THE establishment of any schools in Morobe must follow requirements and processes set by National Department of Education.

Morobe education division senior advisor Berei Kalo said this when responding to concerns raised by an elementary teacher for not being on government salary for more than 10 years.

Mr Kalo said there are lots of elementary, early childhood and phoenix schools established by individuals, church groups and communities depending on accessibility to education services.

He said they are stakeholders to education and Morobe education division appreciate their effort in making education accessible to the children but they must always consult education officers in the province before establishing their school.

“We are here to help everyone that show interest in education by providing guidelines on requirements and processes that needs to followed accordingly.

“Once these requirements are met, then processes of having the school register with registration number, position creations for teachers, qualification of teachers to be screened and fill in forms to be considered for funding support like government tuition fee subsidy,” Mr Kalo said.

Mr Kalo said they verify and justify that all requirements are met with processes required followed, it will go before provincial education board for approval and the school can go into operation the following year.

He said they cannot establish schools without education division knowledge, consultation and later run to the education division to have their teachers put on the government salary or be included on the government subsidy of GTFS.

“This is not right and if schools are established without our knowledge and advise, those establishing these schools must know that they have the financial capability to manage the school operations as well as salaries for teachers they employed.

“My warning is that before establishing schools; at least let us know so we can follow proper processes and procedures to help you establish it so education department can pay teachers teaching at your school and assist with funding for the school operations,” Mr Kalo added.
