PM James Marape - confirms K5m payment.
PM MARAPE CONFIRMS COMMITMENT
THE Government’s K5 million commitment for the Warangoi hydro project will be released next month, Prime Minister James Marape has told Parliament yesterday.
Marape told Parliament yesterday that the work plan for this project has been approved and that the K5 million commitment the government made had already been included as part of the approved plan.
He was responding to Pomio MP Elias
Kapavore who said that this was PM’s commitment made last year to the people of
Pomio regarding the Warangoi hydro project.
“This is a commitment from last year when
he commissioned one of the power plants in his electorate which was not
functioning for some years – Warangoi Hydro Landowners have presented a
petition to the Prime Minister James Marape over the PNG Power set up accessing
hydro power and supplying to the province,” Mr Kapavore said.
But Mr Marape assured that the Government has
addressed this and a work plan has been approved reminding the people of Pomio
especially the Warangoi Hydro project landowners that the payment will be made
by next month.
“Yes, I was presented a peaceful
petition…what is outstanding…be reminded that the government will settle this
within this month or next month,” Mr Marape said.
“The work plan has been approved – K5 million commitment part of the approved plan and this K5 million has been captured in the budget allocation and the KCH Chairman and MD will be reminded to settle as soon as possible,” he said.
Mr Marape thanked the people and especially the landowners for being patient for over 30 years.
