NO ROOM FOR NEW CLASSROOMS
THE newly-established Seigu Day High School does not have enough land area for further infrastructure developments.
This
has prompted the school's board to call on the Eastern Highlands Provincial
Government to relocate the school to another location.
The
four-year-old institution is located with the premises of Seigu Primary School
on the south eastern fringes of Goroka town.
Board
chairman Tom Amero said that SDHS “is sandwiched between the existing Seigu Primary
School and the Seigu Elementary School” with insufficient land area for infrastructure
developments of new classrooms, staff houses and a sports field.
SDHS
was established in 2017 to enroll grade nine students from Siokei, West Goroka,
Gama, North Goroka, Okiufa and Faniyufa primary schools.
The
school has so far passed out four batches of grade 10 students to Asaroka,
Goroka and Aiyura secondary schools to do grade 11.
SDHS
has enrolled 180 grade nines this school year from feeder schools while 416
students are doing grade ten.
The
school has 18 teachers and is governed by a
board headed by Tom Amero.
Principal
Ubize Notofo ensures that SDHS operates smoothly despite limited land area and
crowded classrooms.
Mr
Notofo is ably assisted by his deputy, Shadrick Pipike, and the Senior Subject
Master Alex Robin.
The
institution received a grant of K200,000 from the Eastern Highlands Provincial
Government in 2019 and converted it into a double classroom.
