EASTER BRINGS GOOD TIDINGS FOR POM

Powerlines in East Boroko.

BY CLAUDIA TALLY

IT is Easter Weekend. The Good News is the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour.

Thousands of Christians throughout the nation, including in the capital, will be celebrating this Christian observation.

And most will be praying for even better news - that water supply to their homes remained undisturbed and  that power, be constant as well.

These two services have been regularly affected by service requirements in the past months.

We can rest assured on the water, and hope for the best for power. While water supply in the nation’s capital was seemingly restored after days of agony for city residents and businesses, electricity supplier PNG Power has warned that there will be issues with power supply in the coming days following two total system outages early Wednesday morning.

Fill up your containers for emergency.

This does not spell good news for city residents and business houses for the long Easter weekend starting today, after they had to put up with no water or very little water for five days.

Water PNG has assured city residents and business houses that the water problems experience in the past six days have ended yesterday.

A public notice by the utility company said despite a minor disturbance yesterday morning, water restoration is fully underway to the city.

“We have commenced full restoration of water supply to the city residents. We experienced a minor disturbance to the water treatment plant earlier today, however that is being monitored as we continue to restore water supply.”

Water PNG is hopeful that there will not be any disruptions over the long weekend.

“If anything does go wrong, such as the recent experience on turbidity, we have a duty to protect our consumers to ensure the water quality is at the acceptable level for human consumption. We also have a duty to safeguard the assets that generate water supply to the city."

Meanwhile PNG Power Limited acting Chief Executive Officer Obed Batia said there will be load shedding in parts of the city in the coming days.

The company is working towards repairing the damages done to the transformer at Kanudi power station.

“However due to the grid experiencing generation short fall and system low voltage we have now under taken emergency load shedding for some of our feeders to enable our teams to ensure supply is steady.”

Both PNG Power Limited and Water PNG continue to highlight that the growth of the city and the population has affected the supply and distribution of these two vital services electricity and water respectively.

Whatever you do this long weekend, don't forget the Cross of calvary where the power is Everlasting and water flows Eternal.
