PNG NATIONAL GENERAL ELECTIONS 2022 - PNC IN MANUS

O'NEILL CAMPAIGNS FOR WEP KANAWI & GEORGE SIKIN IN MANUS

Six years ago, former PM Peter O’Neill promised Manus Islanders a brand new international standard airport.

Last Friday, he landed at a brand new Momote Airport on Los Negros Island.

The garamut of Manus welcomed him and the perennial hip shake of the famous Manus sway shook him awake.

It was a big welcome long in the waiting for a man who kept his promise. The red of PNC swept the scene like blood red from the flags to the laplaps and the buai stained spittle.

O'Neill told thousands of Manus Islanders he was a proud man walking through the newly built Momote Airport Terminal, a project he kicked off six years ago.

And he promised Manus people that he stood ready to develop the island province further starting in September when he forms government with his two candidates in George Sikin and Wep Kanawi.

O’Neill recalled that in 2017, he stood at that same oval to campaign for former PNC members Job Pomat and Charlie Benjamin promising infrastructure development in Manus.

He said both leaders failed him by not carrying on the legacy in developing Manus as they jumped ship to Pangu two years later when Marape took office.

“Wok mas go yet! (work must still continue), I had all these great plans for Manus…you know I don’t do ground breaking ceremonies, I go and officially open them,” he said.

“You need a good wharf that will bring up your economy. You need a good port, you need good roads, you have an airport already, I had all these in the plans for Manus,” O’Neill said.

“You need infrastructure for roads, ports, wharf and power you already got your airport, that is going to build the economy and create jobs for Manus and you can be rest assured that I will be your partner.

“Not every politician will come and feed us all, that is impossible and that will never happen, they will come only in election time.

"You need to vote for our children’s future, if you don’t care about your future that’s fine, but our children, they did not ask to be here, you have a responsibility to them, that is why I introduced free education, will start in September this year, full free education.

O'Neill gets welcome gifts from his hosts, the people of Manus.

“When we form government I will make sure to put the money for free education and I will make sure to change the constitution to make it no government in future to come and change it.

“My policies are people driven and I will make sure I bring PNG to a standard our people deserve.

“I am not a coward, I am a proud Highlander, I am a proud tribal leader, I am a proud leader of my people that’s why they give me first count first vote, four terms in a row, this will be the fifth time.

"And that’s why I know Manus will give me, second and third member and we make sure Manus will be part of a new exciting government.

“And I will make sure I will be your partner to build all these infrastructures that Manus needs,” he said.

PNC Candidate for Manus Regional GEORGE SIKIN is all psyched up!
